Some Refugees are More Deserving than Others
The Left has a real sympathy gap when the refugees are Caucasian
It’s not news that Democrats (Libs, Progs, Leftists, Commies) are impervious to seeing their own hypocrisy. Nevertheless, examples of that hypocrisy are everywhere.
Consider the reactions to white Afrikaners coming to America as refugees from what Pres. Trump has accurately labeled the genocide being perpetrated against whites in South Africa.
Some of my previous writing on related subjects includes 2018’s How a country commits suicide and 2013’s Why not Zimbabwe? South Africa is on track to become another Rhodesia/Zimbabwe, only bloodier and more destructive, and you won’t be hearing about it on the Network News.
And now the very same people who are tearing their hair out over the deportation of members of violent South- and Central American criminal gangs (such as MS-13 and Tren de Aragua) are just as vehemently objecting to white families from S. Africa, fleeing the pervasive and horrific racial vengeance that is roiling their native country, being given refugee status and welcomed into the U.S.
Some of the accounts of murder and torture of white South African farmers echo accounts of the individual atrocities perpetrated by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023.
People who never opposed refugee status for criminal gang members or military-age men from Third-World countries that sponsor terrorism (refugees who show little to no interest in- and little likelihood of assimilating and becoming productive American citizens) have now found a group whose refugee status they can protest. And what makes this new group different from all the wretched refuse that has washed up on our shores and assailed our border? The most striking difference is the color of their skin.
It strikes me that turning away these South African families would be tantamount to Franklin Delano Roosevelt (who was, after all, a Democrat!) turning away, in 1939, the MS St. Louis, the ship bearing nearly a thousand Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany.
That ship was bound for Havana, Cuba, but five days before its arrival 40,000 Cubans turned out in Havana to protest (the claim was that the Jews were Communists — quite ironic considering what Cuba has become!) and the passengers were not permitted to disembark.
Although the St. Louis sailed within sight of the lights of Miami, FDR and his State Dept. refused to let the ship dock in a mainland port, and after putting ashore briefly in the Canal Zone it had to return to Europe. Many of the passengers found refuge in Great Britain and Western Europe, but ultimately some 254 perished in the Holocaust. But for the policies of the FDR regime, they might have become productive American citizens.
And yet, given the political climate on today’s college campuses and elsewhere, who’s to say that a boatload of Jews seeking refuge would not inspire protests that might dwarf the one in Havana in 1939?
Complicating the Afrikaner refugee matter somewhat is a political blitz by the likes of Trump-hating NeoCon Bill Kristol and his cohorts, who have uncovered anti-Semitic remarks made by one of the Afrikaners, and are claiming that as proof that Trump is importing Nazis and that Elon Musk (who left S. Africa in 1988, at age 17) is a Nazi; they perpetuate the canard that Musk gave a “Nazi salute” at Trump’s inauguration, and use that to bolster their tired talking-point that Trump is a Nazi.
I’m sorry, Trump-haters, but when it comes to boilerplate tropes like “Trump is a Nazi” or Hillary’s “Russian collusion” hoax, those ships have sailed.

Yes! The horrors have not been reported by the MSM. The South African government codified 'farm repatriation' years ago, and the ANC has been seizing land, most recently without compensation to families with generational interests in the property.
One account:
https://www.news.com.au/finance/economy/world-economy/south-africa-begins-seizing-whiteowned-farms/news-story/8937f899bd3f131bfc4ffb648ea5c53b
The ignorance of the argument that Afrikaners aren't legitimate refugees because they're benefactors of apartheid ignores that they are forcibly displaced, whatever their race.
Did the farmer's ancestor steal the property? Did the early African resident sell the property? Did the exchange exist in war or in peace? Complicated using the lens of modern sensibilities to define who "deserves" refugee status.
Reverse discrimination is racism too.
There is no doubt the Dutch, Italians, Portuguese, British and French colonized poor primitive people's lands.
World history is filled with migration and warfare, the winners and losers are part of the modern past which you, Stu, point out can be appalling to anyone with a moral compass.
Love thy (world) neighbor.
