I got my first dog, I think, around 1977 or 1978. I've always had Labs. However, both you and I came on dogs a little late in life since we lived in Stuyvesant Town, which didn't allow dogs. I'm sorry we couldn't have them. Cats, yes. Birds, yes. Snakes (I had them), yes. But not dogs. I've never lived in an are near a volcano, and that's fortunate.

You might remember that there were families in Stuyvesant Town who got around the ban on cats and dogs (I'm pretty sure cats were verboten) by having exotic animals; notably, the Beams(sp.?): daughters Bradley and Burgundy and parents Bill and Barbara; they had snakes and even an ocelot!

No, I never heard of the Beams. I think, and this is just through my parents, that since dogs have to go outside you couldn't have one. Cats stay inside (we had one which died from the problems with Puss n' Boots cat food) and many people had them. We had a parakeet which made a horrible dive in the kitchen into a pot of boiling oil. It survived, and when its feathers came back they were white! We gave it to a parakeet collector my mom knew and it did very well. I had a couple of ribbon snakes and later a boa constrictor at Stuyvesant Town, and they did fairly well. The anaconda was apparently sick when I bought it and died in a few months.

Too funny! Of all the things I've read about the Mt St Helen's eruption using panty hose, as you describe, wasn't one of them! No doubt Levi understood and I'll keep that in mind for my Finnegan pup "IF" that should ever confront us 😆

Thnx for sharing

p.s. I know you'll come up with a great name for your newsletter, but FWIW how about "Stu's Stew" a potpourri of current and past news and stories 😉 🤣

Thanks for the input. I think "Stu's Stew" is just a tad bit too cute. I've also rejected, among others, "Stu's News & Views" and "Stu'd Tomatoes."
